This was my first starring role in a feature film. It was shot in 1995...guerilla style! For those who aren’t familiar with the term, it basically means we had no permits to shoot anywhere legally. At all times we were scanning the roads and city streets for cops and quite a few times had to duck into a nearby building or under a bridge to avoid oncoming authorities.
One of the scenes required me and my male counterpart to climb up to the Hollywood sign - a feat that I had wanted to accomplish as soon as I moved to Los Angeles. The problem? IT’S TOTALLY ILLEGAL! It was a foggy morning before the sun had come up when we began climbing. About half way up, an alarm was triggered that warned over a loudspeaker system that we should return to the bottom of the hill as the authorities had been notified. Charlie Unger - the director/writer - freaked out and instructed us to quickly descend back to the bottom, but I, with my high heels in hand, told him that as long as we were there, we should get the shot! In two takes, we got it and quickly climbed down hoping we would get out without getting arrested! It was quite a rush!
The film itself was edited and later looped by another actress, so you will notice - if you purchase the movie - that it is not my voice. The reason the original sound was so bad? It was recorded by a microphone taped on the end of a broom stick.
Good times!!!
